Meet UO community members who contribute to creating greater inclusion and access through their research and professional activities.

Mauricio Rafael Magaña, Doctoral Student in the Department of Anthropology and 2009 Graduate Research Award Recipient

Story behind your name: Named after my grandfather.

Family nickname(s) growing up: huicho, mau, mo, flaco.

Identity on campus and what brought you to the U of O: Chicano and my advisor brought me here.

Childhood aspiration: To build lowrider cars.

What would you be doing or where would we find you if you weren't at work, class, or studying? Snowboarding.

Research interests: Broadly speaking I am interested in how social movements expand the margins of what is politically possible. Specifically I am looking at how urban youth in Oaxaca, Mexico use street art as a medium for political and social activism as members of an on-going social movement (APPO).
